Charlie Russell on Treadwell and "Grizzly Man"

Here's the link to Charlie Russell's reflections on the life of Tim Treadwell, and its depiction in Herzog's film. Though I think it's important not to conflate two very different lives, I think that Russell offers us a glimpse of what a project like Treadwell's might look like if liberated from the dark side of his personality, and from the (arguable) distortion of the documentarian's lens.

  1. I think it will be interesting to see the "Bear Man" video that features Russell, and to compare it with "Grizzly Man." Not only because of the differences between Threadwell & Russell, but also because of the differences between BBC & Herzog. Though, I wish I could see what a movie about Threadwell done by BBC, because I do feel that Herzog cut and pasted many of Threadwell's footage for his own agenda.

  3. Charlie is doing a great job with Brown Bears in Kamchatka. I have read his article on his website and fully agree with his views. A pepper spray and an electric fence would have probably prevented the tragic loss of 2 lives.

PS: Charlie's website (cloudline.org) is not working now. Hope everything is going fine for Charlie's project .. Please do share if you have any information....
